Some patients first meet Dr Kagiso Moloi in the dental chair. Others know his voice from the radio, where he has brought jazz to Namibian listeners since 2004. Beyond the practice and the mic, community service has run through his career from the start.
Dr Moloi has worked as a dentist in Windhoek and northern Namibia for more than two decades. He completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of the Western Cape in 1999 and began his career in 2001 as an assistant dentist in Oshakati. A resident post and later a partnership in Windhoek followed, and in 2016 he founded Dr Kagiso Moloi and Associates.
He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Dental Implantology from the University of the Western Cape and completed a course in immediate loading of implants at ILAPEO in Brazil. On the orthodontic side, he finished a postgraduate fixed orthodontic course in Pretoria and a certificate in orthodontics in the United States. More recently, he added a certificate in aesthetic dermatology.
He served as President of the Namibia Dental Association from 2009 to 2011 and was appointed to the advisory board of the UNAM School of Dentistry. Since 2016, he has mentored dental graduates as they prepare for their Health Professions Councils of Namibia examinations.
On The Air
Dr Moloi’s radio career began at UNAM Radio in 2004. He went on to present on NBC National Radio from 2007 to 2014 and then on Energy 100 FM, where he is back on air today after three years at Desert Radio. Since 2014, he has been the Namibian host of UNESCO International Jazz Day, and he has appeared as a resident dental expert on NBC television since 2006. His work on air has involved hosting live shows and interviewing guests, along with writing and planning his own segments.
Broadcasting and dentistry are both, in their own way, about communication, and Dr Moloi has kept a foot in each for more than two decades. You can catch him on air each week, and his current radio shows and television slot are listed separately.
Service Beyond The Practice
In 2005, he served as Clinical Director for Special Olympics Namibia. Between 2006 and 2013, he volunteered with Special Olympics internationally, at events in Greece, the United States, South Korea, Hong Kong, Nigeria and Malawi. He also led a national outreach programme with the Ministry of Health and Social Services that travelled to all 14 regions of Namibia, and he has been part of the Nampharm Foundation surgical team since 2009.
Photography is another interest, one he studied formally in 2008.
